BANJARNEGARA — Banjarnegara Regency in Central Java has officially expanded its tourism repertoire with a captivating new destination. Nestled in Tapen Village, Wanadadi District, the General Soedirman Monument park—locally known as MBS Tapen—has successfully transformed into a vibrant recreational hub blending natural beauty, historical homage, and educational value.

The park serves a dual purpose: honoring the legacy of Indonesia’s iconic Commander-in-Chief, General Soedirman, while offering a picturesque escape for local and regional travelers. Thanks to its lush surroundings and pristine layout, many visitors are already hailing MBS Tapen as the second most enchanting tourist destination in Banjarnegara, right behind the renowned Dieng Plateau.

Featuring cool mountain breeze, expansive green landscapes, neatly paved walkways, and various Instagrammable spots, MBS Tapen has quickly turned into a favorite weekend hideaway for families, students, and photography enthusiasts alike.

Unlike conventional recreational parks, MBS Tapen offers a unique historical narrative. While enjoying the tranquil environment, visitors are simultaneously reminded of the heroic national struggle led by General Soedirman.

The well-maintained green open spaces, clean pedestrian trails, and scenic seating areas provide a relaxing atmosphere. The management’s strong commitment to keeping the environment eco-friendly ensures that guests experience both comfort and cultural enrichment.

Addressing the growing influx of tourists, the Management Officer of MBS Tapen, Untung, emphasized that facilities are being upgraded continuously without sacrificing the site’s environmental integrity or historical significance.

“Our vision is to elevate MBS into one of Banjarnegara’s flagship destinations that delivers an exceptional experience for every guest. We are systematically improving our public amenities to ensure families can relax comfortably,” Untung stated.

He further noted that the rise of MBS Tapen is expected to spur local economic growth by empowering micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs), local food vendors, and tourism support services in the surrounding area.

The allure of MBS Tapen is already drawing travelers from major cities across Indonesia. A tourist from Jakarta expressed awe during her inaugural visit to the monument park.

“This is my first time visiting, and I am genuinely impressed. The atmosphere is serene, the air is clean, and the landscaping is beautiful. It is an ideal spot for a family getaway. In my opinion, MBS truly deserves to be recognized as Banjarnegara’s top destination right after Dieng,” she shared.

She also voiced hope that local authorities and park operators would continue promoting the location digitally to attract broader national audiences.

The integration of General Soedirman’s legacy into the Tapen recreational area holds deep cultural weight. General Soedirman’s guerrilla routes across Central Java remain a cornerstone of Indonesian military history. By embedding historical monuments within modern eco-tourism spaces, local governments effectively bridge the gap between younger generations and national history, making historical learning interactive rather than passive.

Situated near the scenic Serayu River basin and Mrica Hydroelectric Reservoir area, MBS Tapen sits within a strategic geographical corridor. The spillover effect from the park’s popularity is actively boosting riverfront culinary tourism, traditional craft workshops, and local homestays. Regional urban planners suggest that integrating MBS Tapen into broader Central Java travel itineraries—connecting Wanadadi to Dieng—will create a sustainable economic pipeline for Banjarnegara’s rural communities.
